. . . Rhapsody Quintet . . .

The production of the 14 selections on the quintet's latest release, by Hayward Parrott and Chris Mitchell, is immaculate. And while the material is fascinating Victorian salon music from sentimental to rollicking it is almost completely unknown outside chamber-music and silent-film circles.

The rediscovery by this talented quintet Shimon Walt on cello, Max Kasper on bass, Anne Rapson on violin, John Rapson on Clarinet and Diana Torbert on piano makes the whole project doubly delightful. Elegant, polished and set off by delicate bursts of ironic passion, The Rhapsody Quintet's Cafe Chantant and Other Salon Delights is a musical adventure from start to finish.
