Café
Chantant and other Salon Delights, 1999 Nominated for an East Coat Music Award 2001 in the "Classical Recording of the Year" category. The music performed here is "salon" music, and was written for intimate gatherings in smaller venues - lounges, hotel ballrooms or dining rooms, small performance halls or simply any room where people gathered for light entertainment. This charming and relaxing music was composed at a time when light but descriptive music was often needed for theater silent films, and dance. The Melody Lingers On (with Leslie Lake Searle, Soprano, and
Ross Thompson, Baritone), 1998 The period from 1900 to 1948 was an extraordinary time when songwriters and lyricists developed a new expression for the American stage. It was a transition from the European Operetta style Victor Herbert and Sigmund Romberg to that unique American presentation called musical theatre. The great songs writers and lyricists on the recording provided a richness of melody, harmony and expression to the world of musical theatre that was unique to those decades. Their songs are heard now with nostalgia by many, and with wonder by those who have discovered them more recently. The Melody Lingers On brings those lovely songs back to the audiences of today. Selected MP3 files from the recording may be sampled here. |
