for ECMA Best Classical CD
January 12, 2006
For Immediate Release
Halifax, NS - Halifax's Rhapsody Quintet
has been nominated for this year's East Coast Music Award for Best
Classical CD for their 2004 release, Rhapsody in Red.
Recorded in Nova Scotia's historic provincial Legislature, Rhapsody in
Red has had strong airplay on the CBC and the BBC and has garnered rave
reviews in Canada and the U.K. (a splendid disc...superbly played -
Britain's Light Music Society, 2005). This is Rhapsody's second ECMA
nomination. Rhapsody in Red previously won the Best Classical Recording
for 2005 from the Music Industry Association of Nova Scotia's (MIANS)
Awards.
Rhapsody in Red was recorded by Chris Mitchell in Nova Scotia's historic
Province House, the oldest legislative building in Canada, featuring the
House's vintage restored 1910 Pleyel piano.
The members of Rhapsody are Anne Rapson, violin; Shimon
Walt, cello; David Langstroth, double bass;
John Rapson, clarinet and Diana Torbert, piano.
All of the music has been written or arranged for the Quintet by top
Canadian musicians: Nova Scotians Gary Ewer, Earle Fralick, Scott
Macmillan, Christopher Palmer and Rhapsody's own John Rapson;
Newfoundland's Clifford Crawley and British composer Ernest Tomlinson.
Also included is the beautiful Valse de la Baronnie by Acadian composer
Paul Saulnier.
Rhapsody in Red is available online at
www.amazon.ca, through the Symphony Nova Scotia Boutique, at The
Madrigal, Sam's and Music World in Halifax, and through the Quintet's
website,
www.rhapsodyquintet.com. The recording was made possible through the
assistance of the Canada Music Fund and the Music Section of the Canada
Council for the Arts. Rhapsody also acknowledges the support of the Nova
Scotia Department of Tourism, Culture and Heritage through the Music
Industry Association of Nova Scotia (MIANS) Export Development Program
for Music.
Rhapsody will be featured on this year's Community Concert Series in
Moncton, NB and recently inaugurated the new Acadia University Alumni
Series. The Quintet's music is on its way to presenters and agents in
the U.K. at this year's Tune In...the 2nd Canada/UK Pre-MIDEM Music
Industry Symposium.
The 2006 ECMA's will be awarded in Charlottetown, PEI, on Monday,
February 27. Tickets are on sale now. For more information, including
