Rhapsody in Red nominated for Best Classical Recording

August 29, 2005

Halifax, NS - Rhapsody Quintet is celebrating the nomination of their latest disc, Rhapsody in Red, for this year's Nova Scotia Music Week Awards in the Best Classical CD category. Rhapsody in Red has been receiving steady airplay on the CBC and the BBC and sales have been brisk. The recording, which was made in Nova Scotia's historic provincial legislature building, has been attracting rave reviews - Danielle Charbonneau saw in the new year with Rhapsody on her show, A Little Night Music (CBC Stereo Two), and Halifax's Ron Foley MacDonald of the Daily News wrote: "The production team has managed to retain a warmth and immediacy...the whole album projects a directness and sense of engagement right from the opening notes of the first track, the tango-like Amparito Roca, to the disc's closer, Cole Porter's Kiss Me Kate centrepiece, Wunderbar...the results are simply splendid."

The UK's Light Music Society says "a splendid disc...superbly played."

Rhapsody Quintet has had a busy spring and summer performing on MIANS Bringing' It Home tour, a return engagement to the Mahone Bay Concert Series, and the new waterfront Bishop's Landing Series. Next up for Rhapsody is a concert in the new Irving Centre on the Alumni Series at Acadia University on September 18 at 3:00 p.m.

Rhapsody is very pleased to be nominated with their friends and colleagues from the Sanctuary Trio and the Blue Engine String Quartet with guests Cliff Le Jeune and Paul Simons, and congratulates all the classical nominees for their work and achievements. Special thanks to Chris Mitchell, Mark Warren, Kelly Clark, Blue Sky Entertainment, Dr. Walter Kemp and Bruce Kierstead for their work on the recording.

The MIANS Awards will be given out on Sunday, September 25 at the Marquee Club.
