Bringin’ It Home Tour 2005 On December 18, 2003, Rodney MacDonald, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Heritage announced the creation of the Bringin’ It Home initiative as part of the province’s long-term commitment to the Nova Scotia music industry. The first tour, which took place April 2004, reached 27 Nova Scotia communities and delighted both audiences and artists alike. “The Bringin’ It Home tours provide meaningful employment and exposure for a variety of musicians,” said Mr. MacDonald. “It also provides a high quality product for community venues during a time of the year when the concert business is usually not as active as other times.” “The Bringin' It Home Tour in 2004 was an excellent experience for me as an artist, as it provided me with both the financial and technical support that is needed in order to ensure a successful, fun, and safe tour,” says singer/songwriter Jill Barber. “It also gave me the chance to experience first-hand just how important the initiative is - to bring music into the smaller communities in Nova Scotia. The gratitude that was shown to us by all of the people who attended the performances only goes to further show just how integral the arts are in the maintenance of a healthy and vibrant community.” The Bringin’ It Home Tour is designed to create opportunities for Nova Scotia artists and groups, with an emphasis on established and emerging talent. Venues for the Bringin’ It Home Tour will be located in communities throughout the province. Applications are on line at www.mians.ca. Deadline for submissions is January 28, 2005, 5pm. MIANS and the Department of Tourism Culture and Heritage encourage and invite all communities in Nova Scotia to participate in this exciting initiative. These showcases will support the continued development of community groups in the production and promotion of musical events.
