RHAPSODY QUINTET IN TORONTO

May 21, 2003

Halifax’s Rhapsody Quintet will perform their concert entitled “From the World’s Stages and Salons” at three venues in Toronto next week. On Sunday, May 25 they will be the guests of the “Music Alive” series, performing at 3:00 p.m. at Saint Mary’s Church in Richmond Hill. Monday, May 26 finds Rhapsody at the Lawrence Park Church (Bayview/Lawrence) for a 7:00 p.m. show, and on Tuesday, May 27 at 8:00 p.m. they will perform on a concert series at Cliffcrest United Church in Scarborough.

Rhapsody Quintet is Anne Rapson, violin; John Rapson, clarinet; Shimon Walt, cello; Diana Torbert, Piano and Catherine Loftin, Bass, all important members of Nova Scotia’s professional musical scene.

Rhapsody has performed salon music, light classics, theatre music, and chamber music since the mid-80’s, at concerts overlooking the ocean, corporate events, charity fundraisers and dinners for royalty. They arrange and adapt orchestral and piano music to suit their instrumentation, often working with local arrangers such as Gary Ewer, Earl Fralick, John Rapson and Chris Palmer.

This season Rhapsody premiered as guest artists on Symphony Nova Scotia’s “Traditional Pops” Series; receiving a rave review from Stephen Pedersen of the Halifax Herald and a standing ovation from the sell-out crowd. This show is attracting interest in other orchestras across the country. Rhapsody recently performed in Ottawa as part of the National Arts Centre’s “Atlantic Scene Festival.  They performed for the re-dedication of Victoria Park in downtown Halifax this year, and were proud to provide the music for the Premier’s Dinner in honour of the first recipients of the Order of Nova Scotia.  On June 1 they will perform their “Melody Lingers On Show” with guests singers, Leslie Lake Searle and Ross Thompson, on the St. Bernard Concert Series, and on June 8 they play the DeCoste Centre in Pictou.
