Peter Allen

Peter Allen sustains a dual career as a concert pianist and composer. He has performed the standard concerto repertory on many occasions. This fall he had six performances of Tchaikovsky and Shostakovich concertos including a CBC national broadcast of the Shostakovich with Symphony Nova Scotia. Peter is also regularly heard in concert and on the CBC as a soloist and chamber musician. Before moving to Halifax in 1994, he was on the Banff Centre for the Arts for five years. In the Maritimes, he is highly active in the musical community, performing and teaching. He is also Artist in Residence at the University of New Brunswick, in Fredericton.

Peter Allen has recorded three compact discs including an all-Haydn programme, a series of miniatures including some of his own Bagatelles, and a programme with flutist Patricia Creighton.
As a composer, he has had many commissions, including a duo-piano work, a choral work, a band and choir work, and most recently, a string Quartet commissioned by the CBC for national broadcast by the Blue Engine string Quartet, premiered March 12, 2003. Allen is currently beginning work on another orchestral commission. His orchestral work Mar Atlantico was given its Canadian premiere by Symphony Nova Scotia under the baton of Maestro Bernhard Gueller on stage of the National Arts centre in Ottawa on April 28, 2003 to rave reviews. Allen is currently beginning work on another orchestral commission.
